Troy Eugene Oldham of Round Lake, IL passed away Jan 5, 2021, at Resolute Health Hospital in New Braunfels, TX. He was 66 yrs old.
Troy and Susan Burns Oldham were married on May 24, 1975. The wedding took place at Neu Chapel on the campus of the University of Evansville (Indiana). It was officiated by Troy's brother, Wayne.
Troy had a long and admirable law enforcement career starting at the age of 21. His first law enforcement job was as the Town Marshall in Owensville, IN in the mid-1970's. He then worked with Conrail RR on the RR police, with his first K-9 partner Colonel. He was hired by the Lake County (Illinois) Sheriff's Department on April 28, 1986 as a Deputy on Highway Patrol. He was promoted to Sergeant on January 13, 1998. He was a K-9 officer and had 2 partners during his career there, Duke and Panzer. He eventually was put in charge of the K-9 unit, and was a member of the team that created the Police K-9 memorial in Gurnee, IL. He also worked as the Selective Traffic Coordinator, in charge of commercial vehicle enforcement, traffic enforcement Officers, and motorcycle Officers. He was named Command Officer of the Year on April 24, 2012 by the Waukegan Exchange Club. He retired on May 8, 2014. The Sheriff, Mark Curran, said in a letter to Troy, "It didn't matter if Troy was apprehending armed robbers or doing a K-9 presentation to eight year olds, his cool, calm, professional, and patient demeanor, was respectful to all, and is a true example of how our employees should conduct themselves."
Troy is survived by his wife Susan, their 2 children Stephanie (Matt) Fulkerson of New Braunfels, TX, and Christopher (Jill) Oldham of Roscoe, IL. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Remi, Sabin, Diana, and Langston.
Troy is also survived by his siblings: Wayne (Jayne) Oldham, of Evansville, IN; Gayle (Marcel) Dumoulin, of Evansville, IN; Dana Oldham, of Evansville, IN; Rosey (Gerald) Shutt, of Greenwood, IN; and Sheila (Garry) Masoncup, of Evansville, IN. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: David (Eric) Oldham-Heidenreich, Tammy Oldham, Angie (Ken) Newcomb, Danny (Debbie) Oldham, Steve (Teresa) Oldham, Sissy (Shay Cissna) Gardner, Christina (Billy) Sullivan, Beth (Brad) Barber, Mandy (Drew) Smythe, Toshia (Jason) Ashley, Tarina (Larry) Williams, Lori Lundberg, and Barry Burns.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents Calvin and Mildred Oldham, his father and mother-in-law Edgar and Jane Burns, sisters Blenda Hefner and LaRena Oldham, and nephew Jason Oldham.
