Terri Rush Obituary

Terri Lynn (Long) Rush, 69, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2024 at her home in Kingsbury, Texas surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her husband Gene Rush, her sons James (Holly), Ben (Jennifer), and Philip (Amanda). Terri is also survived by her brother Steve Long and two sisters Karen (Dave) Williams and Janet (Kevin) Henderson, her six grandchildren, Tyler, Mason, Caroline, Eli, Mia, and Rory, and many nieces and nephews.

Terri was born on August 2, 1954 to Nello and Beatrice Long in North Hollywood, California.Terri grew up in Juneau, Alaska and graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School. After graduation, Terri attended Abilene Christian University where she played basketball and volleyball and earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. She then moved to Portland, Texas where she began her career as a teacher. Terri’s friend Mary introduced her to Gene and they would marry shortly after.

Terri had a successful 38-year career in education. The majority of her career was spent teaching middle school science at Gregory-Portland Junior High before becoming the school’s first Technology Facilitator. She founded the school's Naturalist Club where she would lead students to explore and conserve local wildlife and ecosystems. Her favorite trip each year was taking 8th graders to the Y.O. Ranch in Kerrville, TX.

Upon retirement, Gene and Terri decided to move to the country and bought a small ranch in Kingsbury, TX. Terri loved ranch life and had several animals including many chickens, Daisy the donkey, and two horses named Shadow and Ginger.

Most importantly, throughout her life Terri was a faithful Christian and loved the Lord. Terri came to know Jesus as her Savior at an early age at Juneau Church of Christ.  In Portland, Gene and Terri were original members at Gateway Church where she served faithfully. Most recently, Gene and Terri have attended New Braunfels Church of Christ, where Terri was involved with their Life Group and Ladies Bible Study.

The family would like to thank all those who supported and prayed for Terri and her family the last few weeks. They would also like to thank Vitas Healthcare Hospice Group for their guidance and care at the end of Terri’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ladies Bible Study at New Braunfels Church of Christ, online at www.nbchurchfamily.org via General Offering with “Ladies Bible Study” in the memo section.
