Karyl Shepherd Chapman

Karyl “Karlie” S. Chapman,
Born: July 6, 1935; in Elgin, IL
Died: July 3, 2023; in San Antonio, TX

Karlie was born in Elgin, IL raised in Barrington, IL and lived in Chicago, IL Western Springs, IL and San Antonio, TX. She was married to Peter Chapman from 1963 to 2001. She worked in various business endeavors for the first part of her life; including owning and operating Interior Fabrics, that she ran with her husband.  The business brought them from Illinois to Texas in 1980. She was later called to work within the Episcopal church where she had multiple positions including: parish secretary at St George, she worked in the office at the Diocese of West Texas and Episcopal Charities back in Chicago IL. She retired in 2004 and moved back to San Antonio, TX.

Karlie was a beloved mother, adoring grandmother and a caring friend who was always eager to help.  Karlie had tremendous faith and while we will miss her deeply, we take comfort in knowing she is at her rightful place in Heaven.

Karlie is survived by her daughter Lisa (Russ) Wells of San Antonio, TX; grandsons James Wells, of Memphis, TN; and Austin Wells of Raleigh NC; brother Waler (Becky) Shepherd of Hagerstown MD; brother-in-law Bill Robertson of Algonquin, IL; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Karlie was preceded in death by her parents Will Shepherd and Elsie Jahnke Eppler; her sisters Kay (Paul) Rateike, Bette Robertson and nephew Scott Rateike.

Her memorial service will be Wednesday July 19, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Chapel House,  followed by inurnment at the Columbarium at the Diocese of West Texas at 111 Torcido Dr.,  San Antonio, TX 78209 with The Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read officiating.
