Joyce Ethel Aman passed away on November 18, 2022, after a prolonged battle with Lewy Body dementia. Joyce was born and raised in Rochester, NY, and was a graduate of East High School. Joyce moved quite frequently, often to be closer to family, taking her across the country from her native Rochester, NY, to Cleveland, OH, Tucson, AZ, Houston, TX, Louisville, KY and Austin, TX. For the past three years, she was living in San Marcos, TX.
Joyce joins in heaven her parents, Raymond and Dorothy Barg, as well as her recently passed brother and sister, Don Barg and Linda Hertlein. She is survived by her younger sister Denise Merlau. Joyce is also blessed with four children Debra Krall (Bob), Christine Delong (Chris), Peter Aman (Kris) and Paul Aman; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her entire family will miss her dearly.
Joyce had several jobs throughout her life, but unquestionably her favorite job and title was “Mom”. She adored her children, offering unconditional love and supporting them in whatever path they chose. She cared about family above all else, always looking forward to reunions, weddings and other family events that brought her immense joy. She was so proud of her 2 girls, how they were so helpful, clean, neat and “perfect in every way” (her words). Her boys were a bigger challenge, but she loved cheering them on at their sports events and comforting them when things didn’t go their way. Joyce reminded us that it wasn’t money or possessions that mattered most, it was the joy of a loving family.
A celebration of life is being planned in Austin in mid-December. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Joyce’s name be sent to the Dementia Society of America https://www.dementiasociety.org/donate
The family also wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale San Marcos-South, St. David’s Hospice & Family Care, and all others for their continued efforts in making Joyce comfortable these past few years.
