Hedwig Rosa Hooper (known to everyone as Happy), of Seguin, Texas, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, in the Nesbit Nursing Home in Seguin, Texas after a courageous battle against cancer. Happy was 87 years old.
Born October 14, 1933, in Galle, Texas, near Farm roads 1339 and 3353 and twelve miles northeast of Seguin in northern Guadalupe County. She was the daughter of Hedwig (Stautzenberger) and Paul Gotthardt. She graduated from Seguin High School in Seguin, Texas.
Happy married John Neuhaus on 24 Aug 1951, in Seguin, Texas, and spent the following 24 years traveling to places such as Morocco, Nebraska, Florida, Texas, Alaska, vacationing across Europe and America, and many other places in between, courtesy of the United States Air Force. They were married until April 11, 1975, when her husband John passed away from cancer caused by the effects of Agent Orange from his time in Vietnam during the war.
Happy then married Patrick “Pat” Hooper on July 26, 1975 in Weatherford, Texas. They were married 33 years while living in retirement in Ft. Worth, Texas. When Pat passed away from cancer on February 15, 2008, she returned to her hometown of Seguin, where she’d spend her remaining years close to family and friends.
Surviving are her son Ken (Lt. Colonel USAF Retired); grandson John; granddaughter Kim and her husband Tim Waggoner; great-grandchildren Isaac and Ava Neuhaus, and Thomas, Stella, and Margot Waggoner; sisters Adeline, and Myrtle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; and her brothers and sisters Lilly Mae, Ben, Clyde, Clifton, Wilburn, Rosa Lee, and Edward.
Happy was friendly with everyone. She was the model Air Force wife and mother. Happy’s favorite memories, came from bowling, playing bingo, watching game shows and soap operas, helping family and friends, and from being a part of the veteran community. She also loved to read and devoured books every day. She was also a pretty darn good cook.
