Constance “Connie” Murphy, age 83 of New Braunfels, Texas, joined our lord on February 3rd, 2024. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Connie was preceded in death by her son Dennis, her parents Maurice and Betty Grewell, and her sister Maxine Gandolfi Chandler. Connie is survived by her loving husband Richard of New Braunfels, TX, brother Doug of Fulton, MO, son Rick & Cathy Murphy of New Braunfels, and her grandchildren Madelyn of Tampa, FL and Matthew of San Marcos, TX.
Following her 1940 birth in Spencer, IA, her parents relocated to Brisbane, CA, just south of San Francisco. She graduated from Jefferson High School and was recruited by the FBI for her typing and shorthand skills. She reflected fondly on her 5 years with the FBI as it provided her discipline and opened her sheltered eyes as to how precious and fragile are the freedoms in our country.
A natural leader and entrepreneur, mom had several home businesses during the late 1960s/early 1970s. In 1973 the family briefly relocated to Shreveport, LA followed by relocating to Reynoldsburg, OH in 1975. In Ohio, she decided to pursue her Real Estate license and then served the community for over 30 years. Never one to sit around, she was a member of the local Welcome Wagon team, was active in the local Business & Professional Women’s chapter as their President and in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority giving back to the community. Connie was always fiercely loyal to her family, ensured the kids had a great childhood being involved in sports and education.
After a cold winter in 2011, she said we are “moving to Texas,” where Rick and his family were located at the time serving a career in the United States Air Force. Connie and Rich chose New Braunfels, TX, immediately fitting into the community joining the German American Club and involved in their Homeowners Association.
Connie had a great sense of humor, was petite but fierce, stuck to her guns, and loved her family.
A memorial service will be held in March, contact the family for more details. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Connie’s name to Hope Hospice of New Braunfels.
