Colleene Elliott Obituary

What a glorious Easter Sunday it was on April 17th, 2022,  as Colleene January Elliott was welcomed into Heaven...
Colleene was born August 25th, 1940 to Verdell and Anna Margaret (Crane) January in Canton, Texas. She was born and raised Texan- a true yellow rose! Raised an only child, she was independent, strong and full of compassion. She loved the Lord.

Some years later, Colleene had begun serving as a student missionary in Riverside, California, when she crossed paths with Robert Wayland Elliott, fondly know as Bob. They began corresponding via mail and he persuaded her to marry him. Bob was a young Marine about to be deployed to Japan and the couple decided to marry, in her parents home, on February 22nd, 1963. Bob left for fourteen months and Colleene stood strong-She finished her Masters Degree and saved/purchased a vehicle in Bob’s absence. Their marriage survived the test of time, lasting 54 years at the time of Bob’s passing in 2017.

Colleene was a fantastic Mother. A wonderful Nana-to so many. An exceptional friend. An empathetic heart. A servant of others.  A woman of strong faith. A warrior. Kind to all people and animals. All of us that knew her are better because of it.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Robert Wayland Elliott; her parents Verdell and Margaret January, as well as her grandparents, many special aunts and other close family members. What a glorious reunion it was in Heaven.

She is survived by daughter(s) Jan Blex (Kyle, TX) & Cheryl Mitchell (Houston, TX); granddaughter Alyssa Hight (spouse-Dorman) and great grandchildren Hunter & Fisher (Kyle, TX) ; grandson Robert Taylor Blex (Burleson,TX). Colleene was so proud of her grandchildren and Marine grandson-in-law, Dorman. She leaves behind many special cousins and how she cherished those relationships. She leaves behind her best friends, Charlie Faye (Cooper) Carter and Judy Todd. What special friendships these were!
The family would love to say a special THANK YOU to The Philomena in Kyle, TX- Thank you for all the amazing, special care you gave to Colleene. We know Mom was so loved by each of you. We couldn’t have made it through her dementia journey without your loving care. We are so grateful.

Aspen Hospice and Palliative Care-thank you for the love, comfort and dignity you provided to Mom. Jenny, Adrienne, Leah, Denise, Larry and all others caring for Mom along the journey-Thank you for standing beside us and loving us too!

The family will have a private memorial celebration this week and will plan a graveside service at a later date in Canton, TX.

Donations to local animal shelters would be a fantastic way to honor Colleene. She loved all creatures great and small.
